Dmitry Kan

Dmitry Kan has a diverse and extensive work experience. Dmitry is currently working as a Senior Product Manager - Search at TomTom since 2022. Prior to this, they held multiple roles at Silo AI starting from 2020. At Silo AI, Dmitry served as a Principal AI Scientist, where they supported presales in AI, Search, and Engineering and led the Vector Search algorithm research group. Dmitry also performed the role of Head of R&D for a multinational corporate client, overseeing ML research, search engine development, QA, deployment to production, and other areas. Additionally, they worked as a Lead AI Scientist, leading a team in building vertical search engines in various industries.

Before Silo AI, Dmitry worked at Insider Solutions as the Founder and CEO since 2009. Dmitry'sresponsibilities involved consulting leadership teams of international clients, implementing code for search engine ranking, speech recognition, and vector search, and writing industry blog posts on vector search and search implementation techniques. Dmitry also launched the Vector Podcast.

Prior to that, Dmitry worked at AlphaSense, where they held multiple roles from 2010 to 2020. Dmitry served as the Head of Search and later as the Head of Search Technology, leading the development of search engine technology and managing critical components for search, trends, and analytics. Dmitry also led the AI Research team. Earlier at AlphaSense, Dmitry worked as a Principal NLP Search Engineer and a Senior NLP Search Engineer, focusing on search engine performance, search algorithms, and backend system development.

Dmitry also has experience working as a University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki from 2017 to 2020, teaching a course on Building NLP Applications. Dmitry co-founded SmallStep.AI in 2015, serving as the CTO and co-founder of the AI education company. Furthermore, they worked as a Technical Reviewer for Packt, reviewing a book on Apache Solr Enterprise Search Server. Dmitry also volunteered as a Moderator and Speaker at APACHECON North America in 2015, presenting on Luke.

In their early career, Dmitry worked as a Software Engineer at Fishpool Creations Oy / Comptel Corporation, specializing in network element interfaces for mobile and fixed subscribers. Dmitry also worked as a PhD Candidate at Saint Petersburg State University, conducting research in machine translation and teaching NLP courses.

Throughout their career, Dmitry Kan has gained expertise in various areas including AI, search algorithms, NLP, search engine development, and product management.

Dmitry Kan has a diverse education history. Dmitry first obtained a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from North Ossetian State University in 2002. Dmitry then pursued a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics at Saint Petersburg State University from 2002 to 2005. Following this, they enrolled in the University of Eastern Finland, where they completed a Master's degree in Computer Science from 2004 to 2006.

Continuing their academic pursuits, Dmitry earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from Saint Petersburg State University between 2006 and 2011. Later, in 2016, they attended Stanford University for a short period and earned a degree in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies.

Furthermore, Dmitry Kan has obtained several additional certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. Dmitry completed courses such as "Convolutional Neural Networks," "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization," "Structuring Machine Learning Projects," and "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" from Coursera in 2019. More recently, in 2022, they obtained a certification in "Search With Machine Learning" from co:rise.
