Michael Falconer has an extensive work experience in various industries. Michael started their career at Duiker Mining Ltd in 1998 as Group Legal Advisor and Company Secretary and worked there until 2001. Michael then joined First National Bankl as a Strategy Analyst from 2002 to 2003. After that, they worked at Anglo American Platinum Ltd as a Commodity Specialist in 2003 and then moved to Cell C as a Senior Manager Regulatory Affairs from 2004 to 2007. Falconer then joined Lonmin plc as a Senior Manager Strategy and Business Development from 2007 to 2011. Michael subsequently worked at BHP Billiton as a Manager Business Development from 2011 to 2015. Currently, Falconer is employed by South32, where they have held several roles, including Group Manager Business Development Africa and Exploration from 2015 to 2022, and Vice President Business Development from August 2022 onwards.

Michael Falconer obtained a BA LLB degree from the University of Natal Pietermaritzburg from 1988 to 1992. Michael later pursued an MBA at the Graduate School of Business - University of Cape Town in 2001.
