Edward's next position was as an Adjunct Faculty at Wright State University in 1990, where they tutored undergraduate physics students. Edward then joined NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in 1991 as a Space Environment Simulation Engineer, specializing in designing and operating simulation systems for various space missions. Edward held this role until 2008.

Currently, Edward is working as a Lead Scientist at Southwest Research Institute. In this position, they conduct research and development in space flight mass spectrometers and space environment simulation systems. Edward specializes in simulating the ion and neutral chemistry of planetary atmospheres and conducting laboratory studies of lunar regolith simulants and Apollo 11 samples. Edward also focuses on developing field deployable mass spectrometry for cave environments.

Throughout their career, Edward Patrick has developed expertise in areas such as ultrahigh vacuum systems, supersonic molecular beams, silicon carbide beam nozzles, gas handling manifolds, particle time-of-flight systems, and detectors. Edward is also a certified Radiation Safety Officer.

Edward Patrick received their High School Diploma in Physical Sciences from Fairmont West High School in 1977. From 1977 to 1979, they attended The Ohio State University, studying Astronomy and Physics. Edward then transferred to the University of Dayton from 1979 to 1982, where they pursued Physics but did not obtain a degree. Edward completed their Bachelor's degree in Physics from Wright State University between 1982 and 1985.
