Liam van der Poel

Liam van der Poel's work experience includes being a Machine Learning Engineer at Telepathy Labs starting in 2022. Prior to this, they worked at ETH Zürich as a Master Thesis student from September 2021 to April 2022. In this role, they trained abstractive summarization models and investigated the reasons behind information hallucinations in neural machine learning models. Liam also explored whether quantitative attributes of the model and concepts like entropy and mutual information could be used to prevent hallucinations. Before joining ETH Zürich, Liam worked as a Research and Development Intern at Swiss Re from September 2018 to December 2018. In this position, they developed interactive websites to visualize and explore the Swiss Re limited liability catastrophe dataset and documented the website deployment process.

Liam van der Poel began their education at the International School of Geneva from 2006 to 2015. Liam obtained a Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma, with distinction at this institution. Following this, from 2015 to 2020, Liam attended The University of British Columbia, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Combined Honors in Computer Science and Mathematics. Lastly, from 2020 to 2022, they continued their academic journey at ETH Zürich, studying for a master's degree in Computer Science, specifically pursuing an MSc in Computer Science.
