Prior to their involvement with ProPublica and DocumentCloud, Scott was the VP, Web Publisher at The Nation from November 1998 to March 2008, leading product leadership and various aspects of thenation.com. Scott also worked as a Consultant and Designer at The Green Guide Institute from August 2002 to April 2004.

Scott started their career as a Consultant at Glass Bead Software in June 1998 and later became a Project Manager at New York Times Digital from June 1997 to November 1998.

Throughout their career, Scott has accumulated a wealth of experience in journalism, technology, and strategic leadership, leveraging their expertise to advance the fields of data journalism and open data.

Scott Klein attended Clark University from 1988 to 1992 where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in English.
