Phillip Myburgh is a Partner and a member of the Africa Mezzanine Finance investment team. He is based in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Prior to joining TRG in April 2023, Mr. Myburgh was the Managing Partner of Ethos Mezzanine Partners within Ethos Private Equity, which was acquired by TRG.
Mr. Myburgh has over 27yrs experience in Mezzanine and Leveraged finance across the Southern and Eastern African region. He founded Mezzanine Partners in 2005 which was later acquired by Ethos and renamed Ethos Mezzanine Partners.
Prior to founding Mezzanine Partners, Mr. Myburgh was a Director of Brait South Africa and Brait Private Equity, with primary responsibility for leveraged finance. Whilst Mezzanine Partners was part of the Stanlib group, Phillip was also head of Credit Portfolio Management in Stanlib’s R170bn Fixed Interest Division and assumed responsibility for credit across 10 SSA local currency FI operations in the group.
Prior to joining Brait in 2000, Phillip filled senior and executive management positions in the Special Projects and Structured Finance Divisions of Standard Merchant Bank, Rand Merchant Bank and African Merchant Bank.
Mr. Myburgh received a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward S. Mason Fellow. He also holds a BA (Law) LLB from the University of Stellenbosch, and a Higher Diploma in Tax law cum laude from the University of Johannesburg. He is admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
