Sean Lane

Dean, College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville

Sean Lane is the current Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Prior to their current position, Sean served as the Associate Dean of The Graduate School at Louisiana State University from January 2002 to July 2018. In this role, Sean led strategic efforts to support the development of new and innovative graduate curricula while also strengthening marketing and recruiting efforts to increase the number and diversity of graduate student admissions. Sean supervised heads of Admissions and Document Processing units, and co-supervised IT and Communications staff who handle our CRM system. Sean also worked with staff to redesign work processes in admissions, document processing, retention, and customer service - helping lead change to a team-based, collaborative model. Furthermore, Sean oversaw IT initiatives, including the re-design of the Graduate School website, improvements to the utility of the CRM system to facilitate faculty review and applicant communication, rollout of a new submission and review system for awards, and migration of electronic theses/dissertations to Digital Commons. Sean also oversaw graduate student awards and fellowships, including restructuring of program criteria and application process, as well as outreach efforts to industry about potential needs for graduate education.

Sean Lane has a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Kent State University and Certification from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education in Crisis Leadership in Higher Education.

Sean Lane reports to David Puleo, Provost & EVP, Academic Affairs. They work with Shankar Mahalingam - Dean, College of Engineering, Beth Nason Quick - Dean, College of Education, and Jason Greene - Dean, College of Business.
