Anthony Smith

Director; Centre For Online Health at The University of Queensland

Anthony Smith has a extensive work experience in the field of telehealth and online health. Anthony has held various roles at The University of Queensland, starting as a Project Manager in 1999 and progressing to Deputy Director of the Centre for Online Health from 2008 to 2016. Anthony also served as the Acting Director in 2017 and became the Director of the Centre for Online Health in 2018.

In addition to their work at the university, Anthony Smith was the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare from 2017 onwards. Anthony held the position of Adjunct Professor of Telemedicine at the University of Southern Denmark starting in 2014.

Anthony Smith has also been actively involved with the Australasian Telehealth Society. Anthony served as an Executive Committee Member from 2008 onwards and held the position of Past President from 2013 to 2016.

Furthermore, they played a significant role as the Chief Investigator for the Centre of Research Excellence in Telehealth, leading telehealth research programs from 2013 to 2020, with a focus on supporting remote communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services.

Anthony Smith holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medicine from The University of Queensland, which they obtained from 2001 to 2004. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Adult and Workplace Education from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) between 1998 and 1999. Their education began with a Bachelor of Nursing (B.Nurs.) in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from QUT between 1990 and 1992.
