Sam van Rooij has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Sam started their career as a Research Intern at D66 Kralingen-Crooswijk in 2010. Sam then served as a Producer 'Egbert de Film' at R.S.V. Sanctus Laurentius from 2009 to 2010. After that, they worked as a Managing Director at Erasmus Shop from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, they became a Medewerker Publieke Service at Oude Luxor Theater.
In 2012, Sam transitioned to the field of photography and worked as a Photographer at Zien! from 2012 to 2015. Sam then joined Calco, a Dutch IT company, as a MasterClass Professional from 2015 to 2017. During this time, they underwent a trainee program to prepare for a position in the IT sector.
In 2015, Sam joined NN as a Risk Manager until 2017. Sam then served as an IT Security Officer from June 2017 to September 2017 and as a Business Security Officer from October 2017 to May 2018. During their tenure at NN, they were responsible for risk and security-related tasks within the CIO/IT Competence Center.
In 2018, Sam moved to VolkerWessels, where they held several roles. Sam served as a Manager Informatiebeveiliging en Cyber Security from June 2018 to May 2019. After that, they were promoted to the position of Group Manager Information Security (CISO) from May 2019 to April 2023. Currently, they are working as a Director Corporate Security (CISO) at VolkerWessels starting from April 2023.
Additionally, Sam has a role as a Member of the Board of Advisors at Management Events, specifically advising the organization of the yearly event '600minutes Cyber Security' on market trends, content, and current topics of interest. Sam has been serving in this role since March 2020.
Sam van Rooij completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Public Administration at Leiden University from 2010 to 2013. Following that, from 2013 to 2014, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Crisis and Security Management at Leiden University, Faculty Campus The Hague. In 2015, they obtained additional certifications including the ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management from EXIN, the Information Security Foundation (based on ISO/IEC 27002) from EXIN, and the Professional Scrum Master 1 from Scrum.org.
