Mark A. Schwamel, FAIA has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and companies. Mark A. is currently the Director of Interior Architecture & Design at Ware Malcomb since April 2022. Prior to this, they served as a member of the AIA National Strategic Council at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) starting in January 2020. From September 2020 to April 2022, they held the position of Associate Principal and Corporate Market Leader at Kahler Slater. Before that, they worked as a Principal in Design at Unispace from December 2017 to July 2020. Mark has also held various leadership positions at AIA Illinois, including President of the AIA Illinois Board of Directors and Secretary of the Board. Mark A. gained valuable experience as a Senior Associate and Senior Design Manager at Gensler from 2004 to 2017. Furthermore, they founded the AIA Bridge Mentorship Program at AIA Chicago and served as an Associate Director. Earlier in their career, Mark worked at Epstein Architecture, Engineering, and Construction as an Architectural Designer. Mark A. has been actively involved in the architecture community and has served in regional and young architect roles at AIA.

Mark A. Schwamel, FAIA, completed their education with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Cleveland State University, where they studied from 1996 to 1998. Mark A. then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Kent State University from 1999 to 2001. Following this, they furthered their education at Kent State University by obtaining a Master's degree in Architecture in Urban Design, which they completed from 2001 to 2003.
