Anna-Maria Virkkala is a Postdoctoral researcher at Woodwell Climate Research Center since March 2020, with a focus on environmental controls of CO2 fluxes and soil organic carbon stocks in tundra ecosystems. Prior to this, Anna-Maria completed a PhD at the University of Helsinki, where research concentrated on carbon cycling and spatial variation at local and circumpolar scales. Anna-Maria has extensive teaching experience, having served as a part-time teacher for multiple geography courses and taught high school students about soils and vegetation. Additional roles include grant research, project coordination, and internships related to environmental studies and data processing. Anna-Maria holds a PhD exchange from Lund University, a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Helsinki, and has participated in an exchange program at the University of Hamburg.
