Alex Deakyne, PhD, has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Starting in 2011, they worked as a Lab Overseer at Iowa State University. In 2014, they joined Valent Air Management Systems as a Product Development Engineering Co-op, where they focused on assisting in the unit control system software re-write project. In 2015, they worked as a Design Engineer Intern at Caterpillar Inc., where their responsibilities included retrofitting new control systems for older Caterpillar machines. From 2016 to 2019, they worked at the University of Minnesota as a Professional Researcher, conducting research on anatomical datasets and developing deep learning segmentation pipelines. They then moved on to the role of Research Professional 3 at the same institution, where they continued their work on anatomical datasets, along with developing virtual reality applications using Unity. In 2021, they joined Lyft as a Software Engineer, followed by their current position as a Software Engineer at Woven by Toyota.

Alex Deakyne, PhD, has a strong educational background in bioinformatics and computational biology. Starting in 2009, they attended Edina High School for their secondary education. In 2011, they began their undergraduate studies at Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2015. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Minnesota, which was completed in 2018. Building upon their master's degree, Alex continued their academic journey at the University of Minnesota, where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in 2021. This comprehensive education has equipped Alex with a strong foundation in both engineering and bioinformatics, positioning them well for a career in research and development within the field.
