Matt Derry has a diverse work background spanning different industries and roles. Matt is currently working at Zipline as an Autonomy Lead, responsible for leading autonomous technology development. Prior to this, they were a Computer Vision Tech Lead at Zipline and a Senior Perception Engineer. Matt also has work experience at Toyota Research Institute, where they served as a Manager of Object Perception and an Autonomy Engineer. Before that, Matt worked at Toyota Motor Corporation as an Automated Vehicle Research Engineer. Matt started their career as a Computer Science Graduate Student at Northwestern University, conducting research on rehabilitation robotics. Matt has also worked as a Programmer/Analyst at Associated Reproductions Services, Inc and as a co-owner of The Pickleball Store. Additionally, they have experience as an Analyst, Technology at The CIM Group, a Software Engineering Contractor at St. Jude Medical, and a co-owner of WordsWorth Web Design and Desktop Publishing. Matt began their career as a Software Engineering Intern at Boeing.

Matt Derry's education history begins in 1998 when they enrolled at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. Matt obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly from 1998 to 2004. After completing their undergraduate studies, Matt pursued further education and earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the same institution from 2005 to 2009. Matt'sacademic journey continued at Northwestern University, where they enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science in 2011 and completed their studies in 2015. Throughout their educational trajectory, Matt Derry focused on the field of Computer Science, gradually advancing from their bachelor's degree to a master's degree and finally pursuing a Ph.D. at Northwestern University.
