Jorge Alonso-Gutierrez

Jorge Alonso-Gutierrez has a diverse work experience in scientific research and project management. Jorge began their career as a PhD Graduate Student at the Marine Research Institute (IIIM-CSIC) in 2003, where they conducted research until 2009. In 2008, Jorge joined the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela as a Doctoral Researcher at the School of Engineering, focusing on the application of molecular biology techniques to study bacterial populations associated with various biotechnological processes. From 2010 to 2017, Jorge worked as a Project Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Currently, Jorge holds a position at ZymoChem, starting as a Scientist in 2017 and progressing to Senior Scientist in 2020. In April 2023, they were promoted to Associate Director.

Jorge Alonso-Gutierrez has a strong educational background in the field of biology and microbiology. Jorge obtained their Licenciatura en Biologia (Bachelor's degree) in Ambiental y Molecular from Universidad de León between 1998 and 2002. Following this, they pursued further studies and completed a degree in Biology from Uppsala University from 2002 to 2003. Jorge then went on to earn their PhD in Microbiology from Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, where they studied from 2004 to 2009.

In addition to their formal education, Jorge has obtained certifications in Python data structures and programming for everybody (getting started with Python) from Coursera Course Certificates. Jorge earned the Python Data Structures certification in October 2016 and the Programming for Everybody certification in November 2015.
