Luis Pabon

Head of Strategic Partnerships at Adventure Scientists

Luis Pabon has over 20 years of work experience in the fields of conservation and international development. In 1997, they began their career as a Social Development and Participation Consultant for UNICEF. From 1999 to 2002, they were the Executive Director of the National Protected Area Service (SERNAP) in Bolivia, where they were in charge of managing and supervising all protected areas in the country. In 2002, they became a Consultant for the World Bank Group in Protected Areas. From 2004 to 2006, they worked as the Director of Global Protected Areas Management for Conservation International. Luis then moved to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2006, where they served as the Senior Policy Advisor for one year. In 2010, they became the Bolivia Country Representative for WWF and held this position until 2017. During that time, they led the creation of the Pantanal Initiative as a multiple country effort to conserve its rich biodiversity and promote sustainable development. In 2019, they became a Consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank, providing technical and policy support to the Transboundary Waters Program. Most recently, in 2022, Luis Pabon took on the role of Head of Strategic Partnerships for Adventure Scientists, where they are in charge of forging partnerships with external organizations and agencies to build meaningful scientific collaborations at a global scale.

Luis Pabon has a Master of Science degree in Regional Development Planning and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, which they obtained in 1995. Prior to that, they earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Regional Development Planning and Management from TU Dortmund University between 1992 and 1993.
