Andy Thompson has over 20 years of experience in the field of analytical chemistry. Andy began their career in 1998 as a Staff Research Associate at the University of California, Berkeley, where they conducted research and managed a lab of 10+ students and postdocs. In 2008, they joined Aurora Algae, Inc. as a Senior Chemist and built their chemical analysis capabilities from the ground up. Andy was later promoted to Director of Analytics and was responsible for filling all of Aurora's chemical analysis needs. In 2014, they joined Amyris as a Scientist and then in 2017, they moved to Ripple Foods as a Scientist. Currently, they are the Director of Amyris's Process Analytical Chemistry group, where they manage a group of 9 scientists who provide analytical support for downstream process development.
Andy Thompson attended Glenbard West High School from 1984 to 1988. Andy then went on to earn their BA in Chemistry from Wesleyan University between 1988 and 1992.
