Michael Anderson

Senior Ecologist at Babbage

Michael is an avian ecologist with 19 years of experience in research and scientific writing. His research has specialised on avian ecology. His PhD and postdoctoral research focused on New Zealand’s enigmatic cuckoos; the Long-tailed Cuckoo and the Shining Cuckoo. Additionally, he has worked on projects with shorebirds, seabirds, crows, parrots, and a variety of other species.Michael’s experience includes working with a variety of avian techniques, including carrying out visual and acoustic surveys, translocation experience, nest searching and involvement in conservation projects. He is also certified by the Department of Conservation as level 3 for mist netting and banding birds.Michael completed a BSc (2000) and MSc (2003) at the University of Auckland. He then moved to Massey University to do a PhD (2010). This was followed by postdoctoral fellowships in Western University (Canada) and Massey University.Most recently, he has been teaching at Massey University in a variety of fields including Ecology, Marine Biology, New Zealand Biodiversity, Physiology and Ornithology.
