Salvatore Iovino

Salvatore Iovino has extensive work experience in the field of biomedical research. Salvatore currently holds the position of Senior Director, Translational Biology at Carbon Biosciences, starting in February 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Sana Biotechnology, Inc. for four years, where they served as the Director of Pre-clinical Pharmacology and Biomarker Discovery and later as a Group Leader / Associate Director in Cellular and Molecular Assay development. During their time at Sana Biotechnology, they managed a team of scientists and played a crucial role in developing and executing translational biomarker and pre-clinical pharmacology strategies for various disease indications.

Before joining Sana Biotechnology, Inc., Salvatore worked at Intellia Therapeutics, Inc. as a Principal Scientist in In vitro Biology, focusing on assay and platform development. Salvatore also worked at Merck as a Senior Scientist, specializing in cardiometabolic disease and heart failure research. Prior to that, they gained valuable experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Center and as a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute.

Salvatore's academic background includes a PhD from the University of Napoli 'Federico II' and a visiting scientist position at the University of Cincinnati, where they conducted research on topics such as the effect of antipsychotic drugs on insulin action and the role of physical exercise in altering Central Nervous System insulin action. Overall, Salvatore brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the field of biomedical research.

Salvatore Iovino received their Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Napoli 'Federico II' in 2004. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Medical Biotechnologies from the same university, which they completed in 2006. Salvatore continued their education at the University of Napoli 'Federico II', where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Molecular Oncology and Endocrinology in 2009.
