Tim Showalter has a diverse range of work experience in the software engineering field. Tim started their career at Carnegie Mellon University as a Research Systems Programmer, where they focused on mail systems implementation and operation. Tim then worked at Mirapoint, Inc. as a Member of Technical Staff, where they developed POP, IMAP, and SMTP servers. Following that, they joined Apptran, Inc. as a Senior Software Developer.

In 2005, Tim joined Yahoo! as a Senior Technical Yahoo, working on integration deals with the broadband partner team and eventually transitioning to focus on the IMAP server. Tim was later promoted to Principal Technical Yahoo, leading a team that significantly improved server concurrency and contributed to a Java-based rewrite of the IMAP server.

In 2012, Tim joined LinkedIn as a Senior Software Engineer, where they worked on various features within the Hire and Careers organization, including the development of the Easy Apply feature. Tim also played a key role in rewriting the Job Analytics feature. Tim continued to work at LinkedIn until 2018, during which time they were promoted to Staff Software Engineer.

Following their time at LinkedIn, Tim joined Opendoor as a Software Engineer, where they focused on improving productivity and quality-of-life issues for developers. Tim worked on integrating with AWS-hosted and third-party services and maintained Kubernetes clusters and CI tools.

Most recently, in 2019, Tim joined Google as a Senior Software Engineer, specifically with the Google Cloud team, working on the Cloud Gaia authentication infrastructure. Tim advocated for service reliability and resolved operational issues, leading to improved metrics around operational excellence.

In 2023, Tim joined CloseFactor as a Software Engineer.

Tim Showalter attended Wheeling Park High School from 1991 to 1994. After completing their high school education, they enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from 1994 to 1998.
