Mary Thede has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of translation, language instruction, program coordination, and assistantship. Mary started their career as a Summer English Language Programs Resident Counselor at Tufts University in 2013 and later became a Lead Resident Counselor in 2015. Mary also worked as a Spanish Teaching Assistant and Phonathon Student Development Associate at Hamilton College from 2012 to 2015.

In 2015, Mary worked as a Summer Program Assistant at New York University, where they helped organize cultural trips and activities for study abroad students. Mary also served as a Spanish Tutor during this time.

Mary then expanded their experience in translation and program coordination. Mary worked as a Language and Culture Assistant at NALCAP from 2016 to 2018, and as a Spanish to English Translator at Grupo M Contigo S.L. in 2018. Mary then became an International Development Coordinator at IE University from 2018 to 2019 and a Program Specialist in the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program at Cultural Vistas from 2019 to 2020.

Most recently, Mary has worked at Duolingo since 2021, first as a Spanish-English Translator and Content Reviewer, and later as a Translation Consultant in the Learning & Curriculum department from 2022 to 2023. Mary is currently also a Spanish Instructor at the University of Illinois Chicago, a position they started in 2021.

Mary Thede has a diverse education history. Mary obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies from Hamilton College, where they studied from 2011 to 2015. Mary also spent a year abroad in Spain as part of the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain program in 2013 to 2014.

Following their undergraduate studies, Mary pursued a Master of Arts degree in Spanish Language and Literature at New York University from 2015 to 2016.

In 2016 to 2018, Mary further enhanced their language skills by studying French Studies at Alliance Française Madrid.

Additionally, Mary has obtained certifications in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Hamilton College in December 2014. Mary also became a Qualified Facilitator of the Global Competence Certificate in July 2020, which was awarded by the Global Competence Certificate institution.

Before attending college, Mary Thede attended Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School from 2007 to 2011.
