Stefan Debast

Stefan Debast has extensive experience in finance and auditing roles. Stefan is currently serving as the Head of Finance at EMBL since April 2020. Before that, they worked at BD from 2004 to 2020, where they held various positions including Finance Director for Central Europe, Assistant Regional Controller for EMA Region, and Internal Audit Manager EMEA. Prior to BD, Stefan worked at VF Corporation as a Senior Internal Auditor from 2000 to 2004. Stefan started their professional career as a Senior Auditor at EY from 1996 to 2000.

Stefan Debast has a diverse education history. Stefan completed their Degree in Commercial Sciences with a focus on Economics/Finance at UHasselt from 1990 to 1994. Afterwards, they pursued a Master's in Accountancy at HUB-KUBrussel from 1994 to 1996, and simultaneously completed a Graduate program in Fiscal Sciences at Fiscale Hogeschool Brussel during the same time. Later, they engaged in a Post Degree program in Finance at KU Leuven from 2000 to 2001. Stefan Debast also holds several additional certifications, including Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the ACFE, Certified Internal Auditor from the IIA, Ethical Fitness Trainer from the Institute for Global Ethics, and IFRS from the ICAEW.
