Alan Dickson

Alan Dickson has extensive work experience in data engineering, data management, and consulting roles. Alan is currently working at Exscientia as an Associate Director in Data Platform Engineering, starting in October 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of Senior Data Engineer at Exscientia from November 2020 until October 2023.

Before joining Exscientia, Alan worked as a Director at Datasparks Consulting from August 2016 to October 2020. Alan also has experience working at RBS as a Data Management Consultant from January 2020 to September 2020, and as a Data Engineering Consultant from August 2018 to November 2019. Earlier in their career, Alan worked as a Senior Analyst (contract) in Remediation Analytics at RBS from August 2016 to July 2018.

Alan's work experience spans across multiple industries and organizations. Alan worked as a Lead Project Engineer at the University of Dundee from March 2014 to July 2016, focusing on proteomics software, algorithm development, and data management. Alan also has experience as a Senior Consultant at Sopra Group from October 2013 to February 2014, and at Dufrain Consulting from September 2011 to September 2013.

Additionally, Alan has worked as a Senior Database Administrator at Vianet from March 2009 to September 2011, and as a Consultant, DBA, and Development Manager at OSM Solutions from 2003 to 2008. Alan began their career as a Senior Consultant at Oracle in December 1997.

Alan Dickson has a strong educational background in geology and geographical information systems. Alan obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Geology from The University of Edinburgh, where they studied from 1986 to 1990. Later, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Mineral Exploration and Mining at the University of Leicester, graduating in 1993. In 1995, Alan further expanded their expertise by completing another Master of Science (MSc) program in Geographical Information Systems at The University of Edinburgh. In addition to their academic achievements, Alan has also obtained several certifications, including SnowPro Core Certification from Snowflake in 2022, Teradata Certified Professional from Prometric in 2014, and Base SAS 9.3 from Pearson VUE in 2013.
