Richard L. has had an extensive work experience in the field of battery technology and engineering. Richard started their career at E Ink Corporation in 1998, where they worked as a Development Engineer, scaling up electronic ink microcapsule coating and developing low-cost adhesive coating techniques. In 2003, they joined Novacel as a Chemical Engineer.

In 2004, Richard joined A123 Systems, where they held various roles. Richard started as a Coating Engineer, developing pilot-level slot die coating for battery electrode slurries and establishing supply chains for coating scale-up. Richard then worked as a Process Development Engineer, developing pilot-scale electrode processes and qualifying materials and suppliers for cost reduction. Richard later became a Cell Development Engineer, leading electrode redesign projects and bringing products through the phase gate system. Finally, they served as a Senior Cell Design Engineer and Co-op Manager, designing a recycling line for spent batteries and developing LFP powder for improved battery performance.

Richard joined Britishvolt in 2020 as the Head of Cell and Process Development, where they led the development of cell and process engineering strategies. Richard was later promoted to the role of Director of Cell and Process Engineering, overseeing the development of new battery cells and processes. In 2023, they joined GDI as the Director of Cell Development, where they currently work.

Richard L. earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. Richard attended the university from 1994 to 1998. In addition, they obtained a certification on "Ken Blanchard on Servant Leadership" from LinkedIn in September 2020.
