The Role:

As a Database Administrator, you will be joining an engineering team focused on delivering the best possible customer experience, by ensuring the uptime, scalability, and performance of our products. With systems that need to be highly resilient, extremely low latency and scalable to massive volume, you will work with other Database Administrators, Architects and Product Engineering teams to keep things optimal for today whilst also focusing on the future state as we move to a highly automated and service-led landscape.

What you will be doing:   

  • Working within a central DBA team whilst interfacing with an assigned dev squad 
  • Traditional MS SQL Server administration tasks such as backups, availability group maintenance, version upgrades, connectivity issues, infrastructure management etc… 
  • Pre-emptive T-SQL optimisation, identification and tuning of high consuming queries achieved through in-depth query performance monitoring 
  • Partitioning and database size management 
  • T-SQL code review for an assigned dev squad as well as supporting developers with efficient database design 
  • Developing and maintaining archiving strategies, data extraction and data insertion pipelines using T-SQL and/or Azure Data Factory 
  • Code and infrastructure automation using tools such as PowerShell, Terraform and Azure DevOps 
  • Migrating to and creating managed database services such as Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances 
  • Participating in an on-call support roster 

What is essential for the role: 

  • Experience as a MS SQL Server database administrator. 
  • Expertise with performance Tuning and T-SQL Optimisation.  
  • Experience with busy databases handling large volumes of transactions per day. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders up to C-level 
  • A natural problem solver with excellent organisation and prioritisation skills 
  • Experience of decision making in a pressurised environment 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • University degree or equivalent from a knowledge & experience perspective 

Nice to have  

  • Experience in data engineering 
  • Experience in Microsoft Azure would be considered a strong asset 
  • Experience with any of the following considered an asset; Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, MongoDB, MySQL, Terraform, Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage (Nice to have
