James Bergstra

James Bergstra has extensive work experience in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. James is currently the Director of AI Platform at Ocado Technology. Prior to this, they co-founded Kindred.ai and held various roles, including Co-founder and Head of AI Research, Co-founder and CTO, and Co-founder and Chief Scientist. At Kindred.ai, their work focused on building machines with human-like intelligence and developing systems for robots to understand and interact with the world. James also worked as a Banting Fellow at the University of Waterloo and as a Research Scholar at Harvard University. James completed their graduate studies at Université de Montréal, where they studied machine learning techniques for image and sound classification and deep learning of biologically inspired architectures. In the early stages of their career, James worked as a Game Developer at I-mmersion Studios Inc.

James Bergstra obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Université de Montréal in 2011. Prior to that, they completed an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the same institution between 2004 and 2006. James also holds a B.Sc. in Math, Philosophy, and Computer Science from the University of Toronto - University of Trinity College, which they obtained between 2000 and 2004. Additionally, James attended Royal St. George's College from 1992 to 2000. There is no available information about their education at the University of Waterloo.
