Richard Clarke

Finance Director at Powerphotonic

Richard Clarke has extensive work experience in finance and leadership roles. Richard started their career as a Project Accountant at H.P. Bulmer Ltd in 1983. Richard then worked at Dowty Group plc in various roles from 1985 to 1994.

In 1994, Clarke joined Avimo Group Limited as the Group Finance Director. During their time there, they built the group's finance department, implemented consolidation routines and reporting packs, and established comprehensive accounting policies. Richard also played a key role in transforming the group into a high-tech global electro-optics group through organic growth and mergers and acquisitions. Richard handled all aspects of the response to a cash offer from Thales.

From 2000 to 2002, Clarke served as the Chief Financial Officer at IQE plc, a manufacturer of compound semiconductor wafers. Richard was responsible for group financial management and played a crucial role in producing the company's first Annual Report and Interim Statements to comply with LSE requirements.

In 2003, Clarke became the Finance Director at Mayflower Aerospace, a distressed PE-backed group of aerospace companies. Richard rectified breakdowns in accounting controls, managed group cash flow, and assisted with sale negotiations.

From 2004 to 2009, Clarke served as the Chief Financial Officer of Oxonica plc, a PE/VC funded spin-out from Oxford University. Richard had full responsibility for all aspects of financial management, risk management, M&A, investor relations, and more.

Clarke then joined Nordson Dage in 2009 as the Group Finance Director. Richard was responsible for all aspects of group financial management and internal control, including SOX compliance.

From 2011 to 2014, Clarke worked at Oxford Instruments as the Finance Director Industrial Analysis. Richard oversaw divisional consolidation, internal control, management reporting, and played a key role in significant operational changes and relocations.

In 2014, Clarke joined Xennia Technology/Sensient Imaging Technologies SA as the Finance Director. Richard was responsible for financial management and control before the company's sale to Sensient Corporation in 2015.

Most recently, Clarke has been working at Powerphotonic as the Finance Director since 2016.

Richard Clarke earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from UCL, which they attended from 1973 to 1976. Richard later pursued further education at the University of Bath, completing an MBA from 1987 to 1989. During their MBA, they focused on various subjects such as Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Operations Management, Business Strategy, and Managing Change. Prior to their university studies, Richard attended Altrincham Grammar School from 1967 to 1973. The specific degree obtained from this institution is unknown.
