Alvaro Quintana

Alvaro Quintana's work experience includes diverse roles in medical affairs, global medical leadership, and scientific expertise in the pharmaceutical industry.

Quintana, is currently working as the Senior Director Medical Affairs-Antivirals at Shionogi Inc. since June 2023.

Before this, Quintana had an extensive tenure at Pfizer, starting in 2010. Quintana, served as a Scientific Expert from January 2019 to June 2023, and prior to that, they held the position of Vaccines Global Medical Lead from January 2014 to January 2019. Quintana also worked as the Medical Lead Anti-Infectives from December 2010, and there is no specified end date for this role.

Quintana's career began in 1996 at Pfizer Inc. LA.SOLA Region, where they held the position of Country Medical Director until November 2001. During their time at Pfizer Inc., they also served as the Global Medical Director from November 2003 to October 2006 and as the Lead Medical Director Worldwide Safety from November 2001 to November 2003.

Before joining Pfizer, Quintana worked at Johnson&Johnson Pharmaceutical Services L.L.C. as the Global Medical Affairs Leader from November 2006 to November 2010.

Prior to their corporate experience, Quintana worked as a Professor of Bacteriology and Virology at Facultad de Medicina - UdelaR.

Alvaro Quintana's education history begins in 1977, when they enrolled at the Universidad de la República to pursue a degree in Medicine. Quintana, completed their studies in 1985, obtaining an MD in the field of Medicine. Following this, Quintana attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London from 1988 to 1989. During this period, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medical Microbiology.
