Fernando Maia

Machine Vision Engineer at Smartex

Fernando Maia has worked in various roles since 2018. In 2018, they worked as a High School Project Teacher at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, teaching holography and dual exposure interferometry to high school students. Fernando also worked as a Calibration Engineer at Bragametro, providing services for the licensing of ionizing radiation-emitting equipment. In the same year, they worked on a 3.5 octave spanning infrared laser source produced by four wave mixing at IFIMUP - Instituto de Física de Materiais Avançados, Nanotecnologia e Fotónica. In 2019, they worked on Cubesat development at CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development. From 2020 to 2022, they worked as a Research Collaborator at INESC Technology and Science - Associate Laboratory, designing and developing High Power Fiber Laser technology for space applications. Currently, they are a Machine Vision Engineer at Smartex.ai, taking care of all the specs for the camera system and executing test procedures for optical systems.

Fernando Maia has completed an Integrated Master's degree in Engineering Physics from the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto and the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto between 2016 and 2021. In 2021, they completed an online course in Machine Learning from Stanford University. Fernando is currently enrolled in an intensive course in Aerospace Engineer from Politecnico di Milano, with a field of study in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical/Space Engineering.
