Prior to this, they worked at Mastercard as the SVP Retail & Commerce and Global Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods Lead, where they developed data-led propositions and products for industries such as travel, retail, and telco. James also served as the CEO of 5one, a Mastercard subsidiary, and was responsible for its operations across multiple regions. Before that, they were the Group CEO of 5one Group, which they co-founded in 2002, specializing in helping retailers and consumer goods companies derive value from customer and loyalty data. James also worked at Chemistry Communications plc, where they played a key role in its growth as a start-up marketing services agency. James started their career with work placements at WPP, Unilever, and IBM, gaining experience in corporate affairs, strategy, and marketing.

James House attended The British School in The Netherlands from 1985 to 1989. James then went on to study at the University of Surrey from 1989 to 1993, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
