Thurso Barendse

Thurso Barendse has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several companies and industries. Starting in 1971, Barendse worked as an Audit Assistant Manager at Coopers & Lybrand in Johannesburg, South Africa until 1980. Thurso then joined Grindrod as a Financial Manager in the Intralink Division before moving on to become the Financial Director of the Airfreight Division. In 1984, they became the General Manager of the Fast Lane Division. Barendse also worked at Coopers & Lybrand as an Accounting Supervisor in Sydney, Australia, and at B&J Rocket Rasp as a General Manager in Australia. Thurso served as the Regional Director for New South Wales at BAX Global before becoming the Financial Director (CFO) for Australia. Barendse joined UTi Worldwide (DSV A/S) in 1990 and held various roles, such as Chief Financial Officer for the Americas, Vice President for Canada and Latin America, and Global Vice President for Financial Analysis. Since 2014, Barendse has been the Global Chief Financial Officer at Vanguard Logistics Services. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in financial management, operations, growth strategy implementation, and profit improvement.

Thurso Barendse holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Thurso is also a Chartered Accountant, having obtained certifications from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (not active). Additionally, Thurso has a certification in "Preparing to be a Corporate Director" from Harvard Business School Executive Education, which was obtained in 2023. Prior to their higher education, Thurso attended De La Salle Holy Cross High School in Johannesburg, South Africa.
