Jin Zhang

Jin Zhang has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of engineering and applications for various companies and institutions.

Starting in 1997, Zhang worked as a Research Assistant at Tsinghua University until 2000. Then, from 2001 to 2004, Zhang served as a Research Assistant at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, University of Rochester. During this time, Zhang contributed to the development of ultra-fast Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors with applications in CMOS circuit testing, quantum communication, and LiDAR.

In 2004, Zhang joined Stanford University as a Postdoctoral Fellow. At Stanford, Zhang invented a new photodetection event positioning algorithm and contributed to the design and development of a breast cancer imaging PET camera.

In 2005, Zhang began a long tenure at PerkinElmer, Inc. In various roles, including Director and Sr. Manager, Zhang was responsible for global applications engineering and customer solutions, as well as detector physics and test engineering.

Later, in 2017, Zhang joined Varex Imaging Corporation as a Sr. Manager of Systems Engineering and then became the Director of Systems Engineering. Zhang contributed to the company's advancements in the field of X-ray detectors.

Moving on to Quanergy in 2021, Zhang served as the Sr. Director of Global Applications Engineering. In this role, Zhang led a global team and provided innovative LiDAR sensing solutions for customers worldwide in areas such as security, smart cities, robotics, and transportation.

Since 2023, Zhang has held the position of Director of Engineering, Photon Counting Division at Varex Imaging Corporation. In this role, Zhang is involved in the development of new generation single photon X-ray detectors to enhance X-ray imaging.

Jin Zhang has a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, which was obtained from 1993 to 1997. This was followed by a Master's degree in Materials Physics from Tsinghua University, completed from 1997 to 2000. Jin then pursued a PhD in Materials Science/Optoelectronics at the University of Rochester from 2000 to 2004. Recently, Jin has engaged in executive education programs, completing the LEAD - Corporate Innovation program in 2018 at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and the Finance and Accounting program at The Wharton School in 2019.
