Matthew Shiels

Matthew Shiels has a strong background in waste management and environmental services. Matthew is currently the Head of Operations - Recycling Centres at Wastecare Group. Before this, they worked as the Group Treatment & Transfer Manager at Red Industries from March 2021 to October 2023, and as the Site Manager at Red Industries from August 2019 to March 2021. Prior to that, Matthew was an Operations Manager at Biffa from March 2018 to August 2019. Matthew also has experience as a Site Manager and Assistant Site Manager at CHLOROS ENVIRONMENTAL LTD from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, they worked as a Senior Site Chemist and Site Chemist at Greenway Environmental from 2014 to 2016, and as a Site Chemist at Augean PLC from 2012 to 2014.

Matthew Shiels completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry from The University of Sheffield from 2009 to 2012. Prior to that, they attended Hagley RC Sixth Form from 2007 to 2009 for A and As Levels. Matthew also completed their secondary education at Hagley RC High from 2002 to 2009, focusing on GCSE subjects.

Additionally, Matthew Shiels has obtained several certifications. In February 2018, they earned the National General Certificate from NEBOSH. In January 2016, they attained the WAMITAB Level 4 Diploma in Waste Management Operations for Managing Physical & Chemical Treatment - Hazardous Waste - 4MPTH, as well as the WAMITAB Level 4 Diploma in Waste Management Operations for Managing Transfer - Hazardous Waste 4MTSH. In July 2015, they completed the Managing Safely certification from IOSH. Furthermore, in October 2014, they obtained the First Aid at Work certification from the British Red Cross.
