Lead Recruiter at Wildtype

Kelsey Shoup has worked in a variety of roles since 2015. Kelsey began their career as a Husbandry Intern at the Aquarium of the Pacific, where they completed 240 hours of work in the Northern Gallery. Her responsibilities included daily food preparation and feeding, exhibit and behind the scenes cleaning, record keeping, animal observation, guest interpretation and interaction, as well as participation in veterinary procedures, annual animal physicals, animal training, quarantine procedures and training, and animal capture and transfer techniques. In 2018, they interned at the Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust, working to help organize a fishermen’s market. This project involved creating a site plan using GIS and GPS components, interviewing current fishermen’s markets organizers on the west coast, speaking to local fisherman, and conducting data analysis on cost and local demand. In 2020, they worked as a Project Management Assistant at the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions, focusing primarily on supporting the Alliance’s goal to advance norms and guidance on social responsibility in seafood. Kelsey created a master list of laws and conventions, guidance and tools, and certifications regarding social responsibility in the seafood industry. In 2021, Kelsey took on the role of Project Lead at The Good Food Institute, conducting a study on whether a large plant-based meat company should invest the R&D costs in the creation of a plant-based canned tuna product. Finally, in 2022, they began their current role as Recruiter & Culture Builder and Recruiting Operations Associate at Wildtype, where they act as a mediator between businesses and potential employees and works on internal research projects across a variety of teams.

Kelsey Shoup has a diverse education history. Kelsey started their studies at Universidad LCI Veritas in 2012 and 2013, focusing on Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography. Kelsey then moved to Monterey Peninsula College, where they earned an Associate of Arts in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography in 2016. Kelsey continued their studies at California State University, Monterey Bay, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology in 2019. Most recently, they earned a Master of Arts in Ocean and Coastal Resource Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in 2021.
