Surya Kotha

Surya Kotha has a background in bioengineering and has gained extensive research experience in various academic and industry settings. Their most recent role is as a Senior Scientist at Xap Therapeutics, a position they have held since July 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge from July 2020 to July 2021. From March 2018 to July 2020, Surya worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at AstraZeneca.

Their academic research experience includes working as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Washington, Department of Bioengineering from September 2012 to March 2018. In this role, they focused on tissue engineering strategies and microfluidic vessel constructs to mimic the bone marrow niche and study stem cell homing and differentiation.

Surya also worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UC Berkeley, Department of Bioengineering from January 2011 to July 2012. In this role, they focused on developing a naturally derived and injectable hydrogel for scar-free wound healing by maintaining specific biochemical cues in placental and amniotic tissues through a novel decellularization protocol.

Surya Kotha completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, with a focus on Biochemistry, from the University of California, Berkeley. This degree was obtained from the years 2008 to 2012. Afterward, Surya pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering from the University of Washington from the years 2012 to 2017.
