Leah M.

Senior Director, Research & Development Genomics at Invitae

Leah M. has extensive experience in the field of genomics and research. Leah started their career as a Graduate Student and Research Associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they worked from 2004 to 2008. Leah then joined the National Institutes of Health as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2009 to 2013, where they gained expertise in next-generation sequencing methodologies and data analysis.

Leah M. then moved on to Bioo Scientific, where they worked as a Senior Scientist from 2013 to 2014. In this role, they led product concept, design, and development, and also contributed to marketing materials and white papers.

From 2014 onwards, Leah M. worked at Invitae, initially as a Senior Scientist in Assay Development, where they detected clinically relevant variants in the human genome and improved lab processes for cost efficiency. Leah then advanced to roles such as Assay Development Group Lead and Program Manager, Team Lead for Sample to Data Development, and Manager for Sample to Answer Scale & Quality Team. In these roles, they oversaw the technical design of new test development, coordinated strategic roadmaps, and supported global expansion efforts.

Most recently, Leah M. served as the Senior Director of Research & Development Genomics at Invitae, a role they held from 2021 until the present. In this multidisciplinary leadership role, they managed a significant budget and drove the delivery of molecular, lab automation, and software capabilities. Leah also created and executed a strategic roadmap to balance laboratory functionality, operational excellence, and commercial product enablement. Throughout their career, Leah M. has consistently demonstrated their expertise in genomics and their ability to lead teams and facilitate product improvement.

Leah M. holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from Seattle Pacific University. Leah also completed their PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In addition, they obtained a certification in "Designing Product Families: from Strategy to Implementation" from MIT Professional Education in 2021.
