John Hepburn

John Hepburn has an extensive work experience in various organizations. John started their career in 1982 at the University of Waterloo, where they held positions such as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Chair of Chemistry, and Professor of Chemistry and Physics. In 2001, they moved to The University of British Columbia, where they served as Head of Chemistry, Dean of Science, Vice President of Research and International, and Professor of Chemistry and Physics. In 2016, they joined the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research as Vice President Research. From 2013 to 2022, they were the Director of the Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping. And most recently, in 2020, they became the Chief Executive Officer of Mitacs.

John Hepburn completed their education with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo from 1972 to 1976. John then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Physics at the University of Toronto from 1976 to 1980. Following this, they continued their studies as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemical Physics at the University of California, Berkeley from 1980 to 1982. In addition to their academic qualifications, Hepburn obtained certification in CommunityShift™ from The Ivey Academy at Ivey Business School in 2022.
