R&D Manager at OX Delivers

Lucas Nene has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of design strategy, user-centered research, and service design. Lucas is currently working as the BlueRoom & Insights Manager - Health Innovation at The Room, where they focus on digital operations and service design for primary health care services in Rwanda. Prior to this, Lucas worked as an R&D Manager at OX Delivers, providing user research and design support for last-kilometer logistics services in Rwanda.

In 2015, Lucas founded DesignHealth, a consultancy that specializes in user insights research and service design for the global health and development community. Some of their previous clients include Save the Children, UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières, and IDE.

Lucas also has experience working with organizations such as Save the Children International, Signify, UNICEF, MSF Sweden Innovation Unit (SIU), International Rescue Committee, Population Services International, and 17 Triggers. In these roles, they have led user-centered research, service design strategy, and prototype development to improve healthcare systems and address issues such as malnutrition, patient referral management, menstrual hygiene management, and mosquito bed-net usage.

Throughout their career, Lucas has demonstrated a strong focus on user insights, cultural context, and collaboration with clients and stakeholders to drive meaningful and impactful solutions in the health and development sector.

Lucas Nene's education history includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Industrial Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art, completed from 2001 to 2006. In 2022, Lucas also obtained a CORe (Credential of Readiness) from Harvard Business School Online, focusing on Business Analytics, Economics, and Accounting basics. Later, from 2023 to 2025, Lucas pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School. Additionally, Lucas has also attended a LUMA Institute workshop on Human Centered Design. Outside of formal education, Lucas has certifications in Emergency Medical Technician-Basic from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician from CDS Outdoor School.
