Lieke van Den Elsen

Honorary Research Associate at Telethon Kids Institute

Lieke van den Elsen, PhD, has a diverse work experience in the field of medical research and academia. Lieke started their career as an intern at the Universiteit Utrecht, Pharmacology in 2006, where they gained practical experience in the field. In 2008, they interned at the University of Southampton, School of Medicine. Lieke then pursued a PhD at Utrecht University from September 2008 to September 2013. During this time, they conducted research in the field of immunology.

Following their PhD, Lieke worked as a Research Fellow at the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research from October 2013 to December 2017. In 2018, they joined The University of Western Australia as a Research Fellow in the Immunology and Breastfeeding team. Lieke'sresearch focused on understanding the impact of early breastfeeding on healthy development, particularly in Low- or-Middle Income Countries and its potential role in preventing malnutrition and malaria infections.

Lieke's work experience also includes a role as an Honorary Research Associate at the Telethon Kids Institute starting from September 2021, where they continued their research in the field of immunology.

Currently, Lieke is a Project Manager at The TIM Company since July 2023, utilizing their expertise and research background in managing project activities.

Lieke van den Elsen, PhD pursued their education in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Lieke obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Utrecht University, where they studied from 2003 to 2006. Later, they continued their academic journey at the same university and completed their Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2006 to 2008.
