Kalina T. Zlateva has a diverse work experience in the field of molecular biology and diagnostics. Kalina T. started their career as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Microbiology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1998. Kalina T. then pursued a PhD in Medical Sciences at KU Leuven from 2001 to 2006. After completing their PhD, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Leiden University Medical Center from 2007 to 2010, where they focused on investigating the incidence of recurrent rhinovirus infections.
