Alex McGowan

Director of Service Delivery at Cathay Pacific

Alex McGowan has been with Cathay Pacific Airways for over 15 years, starting in July of 2015. In their current role as Director of Service Delivery, they are responsible for the aircrew hire to retire process across Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon. This includes industrial relations, long term resource planning, and the safe and productive deployment of aircrew. Alex has also overseen a substantial increase in employee engagement in parallel with a reduction in unit costs.

Prior to their current role, Alex served as the General Manager (SVP) of Strategic Transformation, where they were responsible for orchestrating the Group's 3 year Transformation Programme. This included embedding a new corporate strategy and culture through a comprehensive organisation design exercise across all head office and regional operations, as well as introducing a group-wide performance improvement platform with hundreds of initiative owners driving substantial customer, revenue, digital, and cost base projects.

Before their time in Strategic Transformation, Alex was the General Manager (SVP) of Procurement and Aircraft Trading. In this role, they were responsible for leading the team that procured and traded aircraft on behalf of Cathay Pacific.

Throughout their time at Cathay Pacific Airways, Alex has been a driving force behind many of the company's most successful initiatives. Alex is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the airline industry, and they have consistently delivered results that have had a positive impact on the company's bottom line.

Alex McGowan has an executive education from the Swire Executive Leaders programme at IESE Business School, and is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply. Alex also has an executive education from the Swire Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, and a BSc (hons) 1st Class in Strategic Systems Management from Bournemouth University.
