Daniel Meyers

Chairman & CEO at Cognition Financial

Daniel Meyers co-founded First Marblehead Corporation with Stephen Anbinder, which is the predecessor organization of Cognition Financial. From 1980 through 1991, Mr. Meyers was involved in derivatives and arbitrage trading at EF Hutton, Prudential-Bache, LF Rothschild Unterberg Towbin and Commodities Corporation, a hedge fund now owned by Goldman Sachs. He began working on asset backed financings in 1986.

He is chair emeritus of the Board of the School of Education Foundation at the University of Virginia, his tenure lasting 23 years. He also sat as the consulting member of the University's Finance Committee for 17 years, the Campaign executive committee and was a founding member of the Council of Foundations. He is Chairman of the Board of Steward Medical Group, the largest corporate hospital system in the country. Additionally, he is on the board, the executive committee and finance committees of TRACO, an offshore limited liability insurance company affiliated with Steward. For roughly 20 years, Mr. Meyers sat on the board and finance committee of the Forum for the Future of Higher Education at the Aspen Institute, which was merged into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in October 2021. He also is on the Education Funding committee of the Consumer Bankers Association in Washington DC. Mr. Meyers received an B.A. in economics from Brandeis University, and completed the Owner President Management program at Harvard Business School.
