Joana Pimenta has a diverse work experience in the field of scientific research and bioengineering. Joana currently works as a Junior Scientist at Mosa Meat since March 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Junior Research Associate at FairJourney Biologics from January 2021 to October 2021. Joana also gained research intern experience at BIOFABICS - 3D BIOTISSUE ANALOGUES and i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde in 2020. Additionally, Joana had various leadership roles at NEB-FEUP/ICBAS | Núcleo de Estudantes de Bioengenharia from 2017 to 2020. Joana also had an Erasmus+ internship at the University of Glasgow - School of Engineering in 2019, where they developed bacteria-based biosensors and designed a low-cost detection method for fluorescence biosensors.

Joana Pimenta completed an Integrated Master's degree in Bioengineering - Molecular Biotechnology from both Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto and ICBAS- Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences. Joana studied at these institutions from 2015 to 2020. Additionally, in 2019, they participated in an Erasmus+ Internship at the University of Glasgow, focusing on Synthetic Biology.
