Tawanda Artis has diverse work experience that spans over several years. They began their career as a Law Clerk at EEOC, where they conducted legal research and assisted with case management. They then interned at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where they advocated for children's welfare and researched education laws. Tawanda also worked as a Civil Law Clerk at Kurtz & Blum, PLLC, focusing on family law, personal injury, and employment law.

After that, they served as a Human Resources Recruiting Partner at IBM, where they facilitated the recruitment process and handled salary negotiations. Tawanda then worked as a Human Resources & Business Products Workflow Training Specialist at BTI Systems, conducting training sessions and implementing workflow processes.

Moving into the legal field, Tawanda served as an Assistant District Attorney at the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, prosecuting criminal cases and providing legal advice. They later joined the North Carolina Department of Justice as an Assistant Attorney General, specializing in labor and employment law. In this role, they litigated cases and provided counsel on workplace-related matters.

Tawanda's extensive legal expertise led them to become the Appellate Counsel and Pro Bono Program Manager at the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts. Here, they argued cases and managed a team of attorneys to ensure quality representation. They then transitioned to the role of Senior Staff Attorney at the North Carolina General Assembly, where they provided legal advice and drafted legislation for various committees.

Currently, Tawanda is the Vice-President and General Counsel of the North Carolina Community College System. In this senior leadership role, they oversee all legal affairs matters and represent the State Board of Community Colleges and state agency leaders. They also hold additional responsibilities as the Internal Control Officer, Ethics Liaison, and Chief Records Officer.

Tawanda Artis has a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Prior to that, Tawanda attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communications.
